I can only imagine what companies might be able to accomplish if they realised truly what motivated their staff.

Excellent article Mark. Very timely also and much needed in many industries. I can only imagine what companies might be able to accomplish if they realised truly what motivated their staff. A recent Fortune magazine article on the top 100 places to work( in the US) included an online store that needless to say did not have high paid workers. The staff though had freedom of judgement to accept returns, exchanges etc to make the customer happy as well as reward other employees for a job well done with out checking with 12 people. The key for any company is hiring the right people and then helping them channel their talent.
