I coach creative professionals across a wide range of media, including design, film, TV, literature, advertising, music, drama, fashion and computer gaming. I use a unique blend of creative, communication and business skills to help clients achieve their artistic and commercial goals.
Before setting up Wishful Thinking I was a partner with Coaching Solutions, a consultancy providing coaching and training for organisations including Transport for London, Gist, Vodafone, BT, Servier Laboratories and the Arts Council.
I have first-hand experience of the creative process, as a poet and a member of the editorial committee of Magma, one of the UK's foremost poetry magazines. My poetry blog is Mark McGuinness | poetry.
I have extended my knowledge of the creative industries by taking the MA in Creative and Media Enterprises at the University of Warwick. My other qualifications include a BA(Hons) in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and two Postgraduate Diplomas from the National School of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.
My creative coaching has been featured in Creative Review, Mslexia and The Author.

'Wishful Thinking is the expression of my lifelong passion for creativity.
'When I started writing poetry, I was fascinated (and frustrated!) by the pursuit of the elusive state of mind in which the words would begin to flow and I surprised myself with unexpected ideas, words and images.
'After qualifying as a hypnotherapist, I was consulted by writers, actors, musicians and other creative people, who wanted to know whether I could help them overcome creative blocks and take their work to a new level. This was the kind of work I enjoyed most, and the sessions had a dramatic impact on my clients' creativity.
'Later, when I was delivering executive coaching and training within large organisations, I enjoyed the challenge of working in a business context, but something in me kept returning to my work on creativity.
'I realised that in the "creative industries" such as film, TV, advertising, design and computer games, there was a huge need for coaching to be delivered in a way that was both sensitive to the creative process and mindful of business realities.
'So I decided to combine my creative and business skills and set up Wishful Thinking as a specialist coaching consultancy for creative professionals and companies.'
