A Basic Template for Your Presentations

Back to the Speech section Page

This is the basic template I use for all of my presentations:

  1. Start with the hook.
  2. Tell your story.
  3. Draw out the three key points.
  4. Finish with your call to action.

The template gives you the essential elements of a good presentation by engaging the audience in three ways:

  • Head — a logical structure
  • Heart — a compelling hook and an engaging story
  • Body — a call to action

Practise using the template until you are thoroughly familiar with it. Once you’ve used it a few times, you can start to mix things up, but as with all improvisation, it’s much easier to be spontaneous when you start from a clear structure.
